Samsung Galaxy S5 Announced With Full Specifications

Samsung announced the latest Galaxy S smartphone - the Samsung Galaxy S5 - at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Samsung's Galaxy S series has emerged as one of the strongest challengers to Apple's iPhones and has helped the Korean company surpass Apple as the world's largest smartphone maker.

Samsung Galaxy S5 has just leaked in live photos, specs and details. Some inspired reader managed to guess the link to a concealed article and downloaded everything about the upcoming flagship smartphone. Unfortunately the page doesn't exist anymore so it's impossible to confirm if the images are the real deal.

A chief complaint about Samsung phones has been the company's tendency to pack them with a slew of features, some of which don't work well with each other or at all.

Following are some key features to check about Samsung Galaxy S5

Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 launched

Samsung unveiled the Gear 2 and Gear Neo 2 smartwatches at Mobile World Congress (MWC) on Sunday, and as rumours had suggested, the devices shun Android in favour of Tizen.

The Gear 2 offers a number of improvements on the original Samsung Galaxy Gear. Chief among these is the addition of Tizen, with Samsung dumping Google's Android operating system in favour of its own open-source software, which should, according to the firm, make the devices nipper than the original model. This shift also sees Samsung dumping the Galaxy branding for its second-generation smartwatches.

However, despite running Tizen, it appears the smartwatches will still need to hook-up to a Samsung Galaxy smartphone in order to work, with the firm saying it will be compatible with more than 12 handsets at launch. We're assumng one of these will be the Samsung Galaxy S5.

Beyond software, the built-in 2MP camera now sits above the display, rather than on the strap of the device, which Samsung claims makes the device sleeker and more discreet than before. The Samsung Gear 2 Neo doesn't have a camera, suggesting it will be offered as a more affordable version.

Samsung has also added fitness sensors to both the Gear 2 and Gear Neo 2, including a heart rate monitor, pedometer, gyroscope and accelerometer, and sensors for tracking sleep and stress levels. Both watches also come with IP67 certification, which means they are resistant against dust and water.

These features arrive amid talk that Apple's mooted iWatch will focus on fitness, with the firm set to debut a bunch of health-focused features in iOS 8 this year.

The new models retain the original Galaxy Gear's 1.63in 320x320 AMOLED display and 512MB of RAM, although they have seen a bump in the processor department with a dual-core 1GHz chip under the hood, as opposed to the original's 800MHz offering. They also come with the addition of an IrLED sensor, which means you can use the watch to control your television, if you so desire.

There has been a downgrade in the battery department however, with the second-generation Gear devices featuring a 300mAh battery, compared to 315mAh. However, Samsung claims the two new watches will last longer than the original, promising two to three days of battery life.

Both the Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo will be available to buy from April this year, but there's no word on pricing just yet.

Samsung Galaxy S4 is just similar, says HTC boss

Benjamin Ho, the chief marketing officer for smartphone maker HTC, has slammed Samsung’s new Galaxy S4, saying the new mobile by the Korean electronics giant ‘offers nothing new’ to its users. Ho said that with a continuation of a plastic body and a larger screen being the most obvious physical change, Samsung''s new Galaxy pales in comparison to the all-aluminium unibody HTC One. He stressed that HTC remains the best option for those people looking for the best technology wrapped in premium design, the Telegraph reports. HTC’s customers want original cutting-edge technology, mouth-watering design and a premium feel from their mobiles, which is why the firm created the HTC One, he added. The Galaxy S4 was unveiled at a glamorous Samsung launch event in New York on Friday. The new phone can sense a finger hovering over its screen and has a device that follows your eye movements and scrolls the page down automatically. According to the paper, these advances, along with a 13MP camera and a faster, eight-core processor, have reassured smartphone users that it marks a significant step up from last year’s best-selling Galaxy S3.

Samsung 'smarter' Rex series launched

Korean handset giant Samsung on Thursday launched a new series of 'smart' feature phones with a price tag of Rs 4,000-6,500, taking rival Nokia's Asha series of smartphones head on. "Feature phones comprise almost 70 percent of the sales and represents a large opportunity for mobile handset makers, especially in emerging markets. Of this, 10 percent is the Rs 4,000-6,000 range. "We are targetting users who are looking for social networking, games and surfing Internet on phones in affordable price range," Samsung Vice President Asim Warsi told reporters. In a span of just 12 months, Nokia has launched 12 Asha devices in India in the range of Rs 3,500-8,500. It sold 16 million Asha Smartphones in last two quarters of 2012. Samsung's four devices -- Rex 60 (Rs 4,280), Rex 70 (Rs 4,570), Rex 80 (Rs 5,270) and Rex 90 (Rs 6,490) -- will be available in the market next week onwards. A smartphone is a mobile phone built on a operating system with more advanced computing capability as compared to a feature phone. Rex phones are dual SIM touchscreen phones and run on Java platform. The devices come pre-loaded with a number of apps like Facebook, messengers like ChatON and GTalk and mobile browser Opera. However, none of the phones support 3G connectivity. "The entire 'smart' feature phone series has been developed in India, for Indian consumers. The phones will be also taken to markets like China, Middle-East, Africa, South America and CIS countries," he said. According to CyberMedia Research, total mobile shipments in India stood at 102.43 million units in January-June 2012 period, while smartphone sales stood at 5.50 million units. "We want the feature phones user to upgrade to smartphones by offering them smartphone like features at compelling prices," Warsi said. Samsung Electronics President & CEO (South West Asia HQ) B D Park said, "The REX series will allow us to connect with the huge base of young Indians who are looking for smart solutions as it is packed with content and applications." Samsung has partnered with Tata Docomo to offer various data packages to consumers.

The phone also facilitates easy mobile blogging. For scrolling through images, flick control may have been one thing, but the Pixon takers it to a whole new level with what I’m calling ‘tilt-to-scroll’. It also has video recording capability and TV output for both PAL and NTSC systems.

The Features of Samsung Pixon are as follows:

* a 3.2-inch WQVGA (240 x 400 pixels) touchscreen featuring Samsung’s TouchWiz UI with auto screen rotation
* Samsung widgets on the desktop
* 3G (HSDPA), GPRS/EDGE
* GPS
* DivX, Xvid, mp4 file support
* Music Player with SRS 3D surround sound
* MicroSD card support
* 8MP AF camera with LED flash
* Bluetooth with A2DP and USB 2.0 (micro)

Samsung Pixon is also ideal for enthusiastic gamers as it comes pre-embedded with a host of popular games like Brain Challenge, Diamond Twister and Millionaire-3. Apart from these, users can also enjoy the motion-sensor based game - Tumbling Dice.

The SAMSUNG Pixon is priced at an MRP of Rs. 28,750 which is almost Rs. 20,000 less than the INNOV8. That in mind I’m presuming that there’ll be no 16GB memory card included with this one.

Samsung YP-P3 Comes With New Features

Samsung's YP-P3 looks like a solid follow up with some welcome new features to the slick-but-limited P2 portable media player.

The P3's form factor is relatively unchanged from the P2. The major exterior hardware upgrades are the addition of a small speaker and haptic feedback on the (capacitive) touchscreen, so it'll vibrate when you tap it.

The Samsung’s YP-P3 shares the P2's excellent 480x272 screen and hopefully its stellar sound quality as well. Samsung's PMPs have been pretty solid, but the touchscreen still doesn't look as responsive as the iPod touch, and that desktop interface looks like it could get awfully cluttered.
