Ricoh GXR review roundup, unique

Ricoh GXR review
Ricoh has recently announced Ricoh GXR camera. Ricoh GXR certainly isn't the most stylish camera out there, but it's definitely one of the most unique camera ever. Boasting an ability to support compatible lenses and image sensors. Ricoh GXR is a remarkable camera which supports new photographic system with excellent handling and image quality that will instantly appeal to all photographers who want to take pictures first and talk about gear second.

Ricoh GXR consists of a body and camera units. Each camera unit of Ricoh GXR contains a lens, an image sensor of optimum type and size for the unit, and an image processing engine. By changing units, the photographer can handle a diverse range of scenes in a way that satisfies sophisticated requirements for photo expression. The slide mechanism adopted for attaching and removing camera units enables changes to be made quickly and securely.

Ricoh GXR has the lens that gives life to the photograph. In interchangeable lens camera systems up to now, the distance from the mount and the back of the lens to the sensor image plane was subject to requirements for flange back distance and back focal length. This made it difficult to get both compactness and high optical performance. Eliminating the lens mount, however, means that the back focal length can be freely defined for the GXR, enabling the new system to use the most optically efficient lens designs and giving it excellent potential for future expansion.

With the GXR, on the other hand, we can design a filter optimized for the resolution of the specific lens. In this way, Ricoh has succeeded in effectively preventing color noise while suppressing filter influence on lens resolution.

However, a mutual condition has been made between the two and Microsoft will now provide a pop-up screen on every user’s system, which allows their customers to either replace Internet Explorer or add another browser of their choice. It will take some times to make the changes implemented.

How to use high quality USB cameras working on sense and avoid technology

Apart from the CCTV and IP cameras, a USB camera is also a good alternative that works perfectly fine for all types of security needs. These cameras are very fast and reliable. These cameras are often used as webcam and the quality of the images is not very good. But if the quality of images is not that important, you can easily set up a useful and affordable security system using these cameras. The advanced USB cameras are quite efficient and use sense and avoid technology helping you to maintain a strict surveillance system.

One of the advantages of using a USB camera is that it is a common hardware tool that can be easily installed anywhere. You can also add Yahoo Messenger or NetMeeting types of applications with these cameras. Hence, you can easily use these cameras with specialized surveillance software and you are ready to go. Furthermore, you can also find a number of nice software packages that sense and avoid motions triggering video recording ensuring a nice security management.

You need to take care of few things while using USB cameras. These cameras work excellent in proper light conditions but do note that even the expensive cameras of better resolution might not perform well under low light conditions. So, if you just need an entry point security system where you don’t need high quality images or video recordings, using USB cameras along with a PC is the perfect cost effective solution for you.

Network penetration testing is required for vulnerability assessment of the network

A penetration test is also known as "ethical hacking", a security tool that provides vulnerability assessment of a network. By actively deploying attacks and penetration efforts against your network, it uncovers the vulnerabilities and threats in your security and pre-empts attacks on the perimeter defences.

In the network penetration testing, both automatic and human-based attacks are performed to seek out and exploit potential vulnerabilities. Ethical hacking is different from criminal hacking and you control the "attacker". The "attacker" gets back to you and reports whether the attacks were successful and if yes, how to stop such attacks from being successful in real-life. Penetration testing not only identifies network security threats but also provides you with a realistic risk assessment and its impact on your business.

There are two main types of penetration tests - Black Box Test and White Box Test. Black Box Test involves a test where the attackers have no knowledge of the network. Attacks are planned in a way an external hacker would use online connectivity in order to discover vulnerabilities. On the other hand a White box test involves attacks by those who have full knowledge of the network and are seeking out vulnerabilities and security threats present in the system.

Penetration testing should be performed at least once a year and at the time of some addition or change to the network infrastructure. Network penetration testing is also essential for risk audits conducted to determine vulnerability assessment and integrity. Script-based penetration tests are relatively inexpensive and suitable for white box testing. On the other hand, a Black box test is labour intensive and involves real people posing as real life hackers and involves more than simply running an online attack against the network.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Launches at AT&T

Sony Ericsson X10 on T-Mobile has been introduced with new look, look away now or you'll be sorely disappointed. Phandroid noticed that the American version of the X10 won't support the necessary frequencies to connect to T-Mobile's network.
Even though the specs page lists support for UMTS/HSPA 800/850/900/1700/1900/2100, Sony Ericsson is going to be localizing the radios.

It has been in the news that UMTS HSPA 800/850/1900 only available for phones sold in Americas (except Brazil) and Australia. UMTS HSPA 900/1700 not available for phones sold in Americas. UMTS HSPA 1900/2100 available worldwide.

So that means you'll still be able to find an X10 that works on T-Mobile, just not in this country. You'll still be able to import if you want to use your expensive handset with T-Mo's cheap Even More Plus plans.

This also doesn't mean that the X10 is definitely coming to AT&T. Sony Ericsson wants to have a carrier relationship, but it depends on if one works out. As it stands, if anyone will be subsidizing that huge $880 cost, it'll be AT&T.

LG Preparing to Reveal Largest Retail OLED TV Next Month

LG is going to reveal the largest retail OLED TV in the next month. Though it is high prices and size constraints are the current Achilles Heel of the OLED TV market, but nevertheless LG will reveal the largest retail version yet next month for an undisclosed price.

The 15-incher will officially debut at the IFA 2009 show in Berlin, LG after which it will sell first in Korea before making its way overseas sometime after November.

And better still, at least for OLED fans, is word that LG is also preparing a 40-inch OLED product in the not so distant future.

BlackBerry 8520 Now Available in UK With Vodafone

BlackBerry 8520 is now available in the UK with Vodafone. BlackBerry 8520 is a reliable and attractive mobile gadget that can be found at competitve price in the UK market in cluding other markets in the World. The new 3G-less BlackBerry has just made its appearance on the Vodafone UK webpage so guessing stops here.BlackBerry 8520The Vodafone UK online shop lists the BlackBerry 8520 as free on select Pay Monthly plans (starting from 25GBP) if you sign an 18 or 24-month contract.

The new BlackBerry 8520 surely doesn't have 3G/HSDPA functionality, but it's got Wi-Fi connectivity to compensate for that. The 2.6-inch display and the sleek design are also attractive.

BlackBerry should have gone with a better camera we guess, as the 8520 has a 2 megapixel snapper only.

Another unusual thing about the BlackBerry 8520 is the optical trackpad that's used for navigation around the interface instead of a trackball.

BlackBerry Curve 8520 is the first RIM device that will be able to sync to your iTunes multimedia content and playlists. The release of the new version of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager in September will enable that kind of functionality for the rest of the company's product line.

There’s no doubting that Nokia’s N86 8MP is one of Nokia's hottest handsets this year. The N86’s camera comes with the aforementioned 8MP, alongside Carl Zeiss optics and a duel LED flash. The later caused disappointment among tech spec fiends when the N86 8MP was first outed, with punters complaining about the lack of a Xenon flash. While it is a miss, it does also mean that you can grab the N86 cheaper than most other 8MP phones and it holds up to a daily pounding better than a proper bulb. Plus it works just dandy in daylight, with our shots coming out crisp and clear.

Difference Between Apple iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G

The Apple iPhone 3GS comes with video and the improved battery life. Perhaps about 20 million people around the World are quoted as having given into the temptation ever since the frenzy started. Using last year's latest design but boasting some extra powerful hardware, the iPhone 3GS is supposed to, and indeed is, running up to 2 times better than what Apple have offered us so far.
While the iPhone 3GS and the 3G are most obviously cut from the same cloth, you'd be glad to know that there are some differentiating factors that can perhaps be worth your cash:

iPhone 3GS advantages over iPhone 3G:
• A faster 600MHz CPU and double the RAM at 256MB
• Noticeably faster performance
• Faster network speeds of HSDPA 7.2Mbps
• 3.2 megapixel auto focus camera with VGA@30fps video recording, touch focus with subject tracking, macro mode from as close as 10 cm
• Double the storage space - 3GS is selling in 16GB and 32GB versions
• Digital compass with automatic map orientation in Maps app
• Better audio quality (as recorded and analyzed in our office)
• Louder loudspeaker results (with performance gains primarily in music playback)
• Purportedly better battery life
• Oleophobic display coating supposed to make fingerprints easier to clean
• Voice Control, speaker independent. Can be use to call a phone number, play music by song/album/artist name, shuffle music
• Built-in support for Nike+ jogging system
• TV-out outputs 480p instead 480i resolution
• Text-to-speech feature called VoiceOver is included in the new Accessibility menu
• System-wide Screen Zoom is also included in the Accessibility menu

Main disadvantages of iPhone 3GS (OS disadvantages not counted here):
• The new iPhone 3GS lacks the same novelty factor as its predecessors - the lack of design changes is a turn-down
• 3 megapixel camera with limited feature set hardly cuts it for a high-end device
• There's still no flash or hardware shutter key for the camera
• Despite the upgrade, battery life is still generally poor (2-year old iPhone 2G are still doing way better)
• No stereo speakers (or are we pushing it too far already?)

Since the iPhone 3GS is the first iPhone to come with the iPhone OS 3.0 factory preinstalled, we'll most definitely have a detailed look in this review at the changes it brings about - no matter that iPhone 2G and 3G have both received the update for free.

Datawind bringing UbiSurfer, PocketSurfer3 to the US

Everybody knows that Datawind's PocketSurfer and PocketSurfer2 handheld internet devices. Datawind is hoping that it'll have better luck with its new PocketSurfer3 and UbiSurfer devices, which are both now apparently officially on track for a US release. Datawind bringing PocketSurfer3
The PocketSurfer3 is a fairly modest update to the PocketSurfer2, with it adding an improved screen and updated UI and, most perhaps importantly, a lower $249 price tag that also includes a year of free cellular usage (up to 30 hours a month). The UbiSurfer, on the other hand, is a more traditional netbook-style device (check it out after the break), although it harkens back a bit to the pre-Atom days with a 7-inch screen, 1GB of storage, 128MB of RAM and an unspecified, presumably low-power processor.

Sony's OLED Walkman - how would you change?

OLED Walkman is Sony's first formidable iPod rival to emerge in quite some time, and with its striking OLED panel, tastefully appointed graphite casing and absolutely amazing audio quality, it's certainly worth a look. Sony's OLED Walkman
If you have picked one up Sony's OLED Walkman, we think you have made a right decision. For many, anything sans an Apple logo is the right choice, but we're wondering if the UI, design and value here were up to snuff in your mind.

We want to believe, though, we really do; those SLRs are heavy, and we're not a particularly strong bunch.

Samsung's Omnia II / GT-I8000 Announces Early

Samsung has recently announced that they are going to launch most attractive and fashionable mobile phone GT-I800 soon. However, whether this phone will be GT-I8000, or Omnia II / Omnia 2, it is expected to be cleared at the time of launches. Samsung's Omnia II / GT-I8000
There are very good features involved with this handset and GT-I8000 comes packing with a 3.7-inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixel) AMOLED display (presumably the same display just revealed by Samsung last week) with an 8.1 megapixel camera lit by dual-LEDs capable of recording VGA video at 30fps. The Lithuanian on-line retailer responsible for leaking the specs (which have now been removed) says we'll see a 1500mAh battery powering HSDPA data with a custom "cubic" UI (looking very similar to the UI on the S8000 Jet) riding atop Windows Mobile.

Samsung Pixon 12 - The First 12-Megapixel Cameraphone

Buying Samsung Pixon 12 would not be a loss for you as it has 12-megapixel camera, which guarantees you nothing at all except for the industry's largest file sizes, is complemented by some decent specs, starting with a 3.1" AMOLED touchscreen, 3G and FM radio.

Samsung Pixon 12 looks like be a decent shooter despite its narrow obsession. Touch autofocus lets you choose a focal point with a finger tap, after which the camera will automatically keep focus on its subject. Shooting speed is quicker than average, clocking in at about two seconds per shot. A bevy of online photo services are supported out of the box, and video recording, though not HD, records at a respectable 720 x 480.

The 150MB internal storage is glaringly weak for a camera-centric phone, though I suspect, as is usually the case, that carriers will bundle SD cards when the Pixon finally goes on sale, which will be in June in Europe.

Next-generation iPhone announced online

It has been in the news that the full details of the new and improved Apple iPhone is availablke in the market. Apple iPhone Apps site, with the date of July 17th listed as the launch date. If it's all true (and that's a big 'if'), it looks to be fairly mild evolution rather than a groundbreaking new handset.
Next-generation iPhone announced online
The inique addition with this iPhone current price points, but offer 32GB and 16GB of storage (up from the current 16GB and 8GB), along with an improved 3.2-megapixel camera (up from the current 2-megapixel camera) with video-recording and editing capabilities, an all-new OLED screen, double the RAM for improved processing, 1.5x the battery life, a built-in FM transmitter and enhanced GPS, with turn-by-turn directions and the option to identify photos by location.

Cosmetic improvements too, including the removal of the metal band surrounding the edge of the device, a glowing Apple logo on back, rubber-tread backing and an all-round sleeker design.

It's pretty much everything that has previously rumoured and not much more. Sadly, the man on the inside didn't manage to take any blurry spy shots, although one image of a rubber back has appeared online previously. We'll be honest, we're not completely convinced that this is the final specification, but that doesn't really matter. The Apple WWDC is just over two week away, so we haven't long to wait for the official presentation. But just in case it is true, you might want to think twice before you sign up for that new mobile contract.

Toshiba to End Production of Mobile Phones in Japan

Toshiba Corp. said it will cease mobile-phone handset production in Japan amid weak sales and will instead outsource production to cut costs.

The conglomerate will continue development and sales of handsets in Japan after stopping production in October. It will outsource production of typical handsets to companies overseas and focus on making high-end smart phones in China.

Toshiba predicts the move will save 4.5 billion yen, or about $45 million, in the fiscal year through next March. Other global handset makers, such as Motorola Inc., Nokia Corp. and Sony Ericsson Co., also are increasing outsourcing to cut costs.

Handset makers' profit margins have been squeezed by intensifying competition and a slump in demand amid the global recession.

Global sales of handsets in the first quarter fell 9.4% from a year earlier to 269 million units, according to research firm Gartner Inc. That was the biggest drop since 2001, when Gartner began monitoring the market on a quarterly basis.

Toshiba's mobile-phone business swung to an unspecified loss in the company's latest fiscal year. Handset sales fell by half to three million units, reducing handset revenue to 140 billion yen from 260 billion yen a year earlier.

Toshiba "made the right decision because they should cut production costs, which are higher in Japan," said Haruo Sato, an analyst at Tokai Tokyo Research Center Co.

To escape reliance on the shrinking Japanese market, Sharp Corp. pushed into China last year with high-end models. Sharp now expects handsets sales to increase to 12.3 million units in the fiscal year through next March. That would follow a 35% decline to 9.92 million units last fiscal year.

TomTom has announced - GO 740 LIVE

TomTom has proudly announced that its GO 740 LIVE personal navigation device would be its very first "connected GPS" to hit the United States of America. Just last month, the company announced that said unit was finally shipping to anxious consumers. Hardware wise, there's nothing here outside of the ordinary, but it's the little extras that make all the difference in the world here.

It's been a rough little while for so-called connected GPS units, but it looks like TomTom is still confident in the idea, and it's just gotten official with its first such device for the US market: the GO 740 LIVE. As you may recall, this one actually made its debut way back at IFA in the summer, and it looks to be mostly unchanged for its entrance into the US. That includes the standard 4.3-inch touchscreen, 2GB of internal flash memory with a microSD card slot for expansion, handsfree Bluetooth functionality, voice recognition, maps of the US and Canada courtesy of TeleAtlas and, of course, a built-in SIM card slot and GPRS modem to let you take advantage of all those "connected" features. As with the Insignia connected GPS unit, you'll get a year of free service with the device, which certainly makes that $500 price tag a bit more bearable. Look for it to be available sometime in the second quarter of this year.

Samsung Releases B2100 Xplore Rugged Mobile

Samsung has released B2100 Xplorer, the rugged mobile phone, that was reportedly released in a few European countries and Germany very recently, may not be big on looks, but is designed to be a real beast when it comes to the elements. It’s a lower end handset without high tech features like 3G capabilities.

The B2100 doesn’t come equipped with an altimeter and digital compass. This could make all wonder about its name. It comes with US Military Standard 810F (MIL-STD-810F) certification that makes it one of the toughest headsets around. With its urethane body, the handset can be fully submerged underwater up to just one meter though and only up to 30 minutes. After that is anybody’s guess. It’s also shock, water, salt, fog and dust resistant compliant with both the European IP57 certification and the US Military Standard.

The B2100 Xplore features include –

* 1.7-inch, 120 x 160 pixel, TFT LCD
