Samsung have partnered with Lebanese singer Elissa in a bid to push the Impulz i450, their flagship music-dedicated phone. Sony Ericsson's K770 is a compact and good looking member of the company's Cyber-shot line of cameraphones. Sony Ericsson's K770 has a very classic candybar design. The lines are very clean, the keypad is very straight forward, and the modest use of chrome adds an element of fashion to it. While the 1.9", 262k color main display might look small by today's standards, it works well. It is sufficiently bright even at its lower brightness settings, and it provides crisp graphics and good color rendition - even in direct sunlight.

Sony Ericsson's K770 has an attractive camera. When the camera is activated, however, the white backlighting turns off and a blue backlight illuminates the keypad's dedicated camera shortcuts and the two-stage camera shutter key. The camera shutter is one of the best I have come across in a long time. It requires a light initial touch to activate the camera's auto-focus system, while a firmer press will cause the camera to snap a photo.

There are a few small misses with the K770's design, though. The Sony Ericsson fast port connector is located inconveniently on the left side of the device instead of on the bottom. The power key and the rear cover release that are located on the top of the phone are quite narrow. This isn't a problem for the rear cover latch so much, but it does make the menu that the power key calls up slightly less convenient to access. Also inconvenient is the M2 memory card slot's position under the rear cover.

Ericsson provides built-in HSPA mobile broadband

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) and Lenovo, the world's third largest PC maker, have aligned to provide mobile broadband modules based on HSPA - the world's most widely commercially deployed technology for mobile broadband. Select Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks will include mobile broadband modules beginning in 2008. Lenovo is Ericsson's first announced mobile broadband module customer.

HSPA provides a DSL-like experience wirelessly and is currently capable of peak download rates of up to 14.4 Mbps and peak upload rates of up to 2.0 Mbps. There are currently more than 160 commercially deployed HSPA networks globally, serving more than one billion subscribers.

Ericsson's mobile broadband modules provide the end user with a simple and cost effective solution for broadband access while on the go. Vodafone reduces mobile broadband rates

Vodafone is hoping to ramp up mobile-broadband uptake in the UK by waving the carrot of a £15-per-month 3GB price. But the 50 percent price will only run for a limited "promotional period". The mobile operator said it sees "great market potential for consumer mobile broadband" and is spinning its latest price-plan tweaks as improved value for money for customers, be it in monthly cost reductions or increased data-usage limits. Business customers can expect more data for their pound; Vodafone said the monthly fair usage on its Mobile Broadband Business and Mobile Broadband Business Travel packages will rise from 3GB to 5GB. Its Mobile Broadband Business package costs £25 per month. Customers will also be able to get free USB modems, provided they sign up to at least an 18-month contract.

Vodafone said its UK network has a top downlink speed of 7.2Mbps — in London and major airports — and a maximum of 1.44Mbps uplink. Elsewhere its network provides speeds up to 3.6Mbps, covering more than 80 percent of the population.
